1. Do you already have access to Microsoft SQL Server?? If not, Workgroup SQL Express would be highly recommended.
As Microsoft SQL Server can run into thousands of dollars - if your company doesn't already have it - we highly recommend using SQL Express which is bundled with our Workgroup editions. Using SQL Express would be the most cost effective option for your company - and would probably save you quite a bit of setup time.
Please note that you do not gain or lose any speed or functionality between the two types of SQL - other than the several not commonly used advanced features noted in #3 below.
2. If your company does have SQL Server, ask your IT department if they prefer one over the other (SQL Express vs. SQL Server) Follow your IT departments instructions.
Some IT departments will be indifferent as to which platform you are on, while others may have a preference due to third-party management tools (ie. backup).
3. Do you require any of the following features (not common): Automation, Segregation of Duties, SQL Insertion and RDP/Citrix remote access? If so, select Enterprise SQL Server platform.
These advanced (not common) features are only available in an Enterprise SQL Server license.
Notes on RDP/Citrix remote access:
The Multi-User Workgroup front-end enables multi-user access and security access control based on Windows Login ID or password challenge screen. Individual user preferences such as reporting are saved ('sticky').
If there is only one user remoting into a computer, a single-user desktop license will be sufficient as no additional features/settings are needed (RDP/Citrix would not need to be turned on).
